The Persephone Post

The Persephone Post is a super, short & sweet blog by the team at Persephone Books, Lambs Conduit Street, London . Each week day it finds an interesting picture and makes a comment on it or gives a fact about some aspect of c20th arts. I find it very inspirational and it often leads me onto further exploration about a writer, designer or artist.

If you haven't come across Persephone Books before, with their stylish dove grey covers and fabric endpapers, they are well worth closer inspection. All of the images used here are endpaper examples.   Despite the description from their website below, their titles do include a few books by male authors such as Leonard Woolf & Nicholas Mosely.

"Persephone prints mainly neglected fiction and non-fiction by women, for women and about women. The titles are chosen to appeal to busy women who rarely have time to spend in ever-larger bookshops and who would like to have access to a list of books designed to be neither too literary nor too commercial. The books are guaranteed to be readable, thought-provoking and impossible to forget."

The books make fabulous gifts!  I've just finished reading, 'To Bed With Grand Music' by Marghanita Laski. A sensational, and frankly shocking, tale of what a frustrated, married woman gets up to during World War 2.
