Memorial

This highly decorative war memorial sits in the market town of Ledbury, Herefordshire. I stop, admire and have a little think about what it represents each time I see it.

The bottom panels are inscribed with the names of locals who fought & lost their lives in World War I, the top panel is now similarly dedicated to heroism in World War II .

Nestled amongst the WWI names are three figurative mosaics in an evocative 1920's style. The WWII names are joined by a four tiled piece of a pilot, reflecting how technology and war fare had moved on in the intervening war years.
