Sing

I loved the cover of this little book when I spotted it for sale at a local charity shop. It is a BBC publication from 1966 with illustrations by Hugh Marshall. There was something about those cows which reminded me of another book. Um, but which one...?

Ah hah! It's the creature on the front cover of William Addison's book, 'English Fairs & Markets', illustrated by Barbara Jones. Or is it just me?

Comments

I agree with you, the illustrations are lovely and I wonder if today's schoolchildren are taught songs like these? These type of line drawings are quite nostalgic, I think.
As a fan of both Barbara Jones and Schools Booklets, I love this.

But also wanted to point you at Shelf Appeal *(http://www.shelfappeal.com/). Not least because you both posted a Schools Booklet this morning. Must be something in the air.

Hello Ladies,
There must be something in the air indeed! Thank you Susannah for the pointer - great website. I've now added the link to my 'Quintessentially So' list.
I do love a bit of Barbara.
Me too - have you seen the rather wonderful book about her? I put some lovely owls from it up on Quad Royal last week, with a link to the book (can't do links on comments, too technical for me!

Ooh yes Susannah! I got the book for my birthday accompanied by one of Ruth Artmonsky's other books about The School Prints series. An excellent birthday haul!
Her work has definitely had some influence over my own...

I loved the 'Singing Together' broadcasts when I was at primary school (well before 1966!)These illustrations are so evocative of the 50s and 60s and very like the fabric designs of the period. I will enjoy following up the links from the other comments, thank you!
