Off With His Head...
'King Charles I' by Anthony van Dyck
Had just finished reading about the forthcoming, 'The Image of a King' exhibition (focusing on King Charles I) at Compton Verney later this month, when what should pop up as the Saturday afternoon film but, 'Cromwell'. Funny how daily life is full of those small coincidences...If you make it over to Compton Verney between 31st March - 16th September you will be able to see Van Dyck's 1635 portrait, 'Charles I in Three Positions'. Whereby you can compare for yourself how strikingly similar Alec Guiness is to the King in the aforementioned 1970 film. Also stars Irishman Richard Harris as Cromwell rocking a fetching line in puritan collars.
